Hi guys,
I am new to this forum and need some help. I have just bought two arm bands, one HJ and one NSDAP,the Hj looks ok in my opinion but could be wrong, but the other one looks a bit odd, as it has 'overlock'Stitching, did they have those kind of machines in the war time era?? and the guy I bought it from said that it was a late war style with printed Swastika. Thanks.

Hmmm. I don't get the "warm fuzzies" from either of these. There were indeed printed ones, but these don't look like ones I have seen. the base material is quite odd and looks like both used the same type of material. Do you have a UV light you can hit these with?

I DON'T LIKE THESE EITHER. THE CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS DO NOT LOOK RIGHT. THE POLITICAL BAND APPEARS TO HAVE COME FROM THE SAME 4TH REICH MANUFACTURER AS THE SS ARMBAND SEVERAL THREADS DOWN IN THIS FORUM.

A UV test isn't the "be-all and end-all" of tests on fabric (nothing is), but it is a useful tool. Modern fabrics will light up like a disco (showing my age here) under UV, while older fabrics will appear dead (no florescence).
The caution is that some older fabrics may light up too, usually as a result of modern laundering.
Cheers,

Thanks,Stephen,
I appreciate it a lot, the one thing that got me is the smell, as I am not knowlegable about this stuff, I try to use my instinct,Like when I purchase any kind of Toy Soldiers with their box, I must have a sniff, looking for repaints and so on, but with Cloth I think that this could easly be done due to the fact that, you can put the Cloth in a draw with some moth balls and there you have it. This is one hell of a difficult hobby, but I will not be detoured.
thanks again Guys.
