It is very interesting that the only thing that gets any real "press" in this forum and all others is for something that sports a swastika!!!

German militaria (history) is much more than the TR which was only able to exert itself by using the fumes of the prior imperialistic period.... until it was squashed!!!

Where do you few and selective imperial collectors look to for items to acquire?

Do you TR collectors realize the "bargains" that are floating around are for the pre TR period?

I have been around for awhile and only see "Der Rittmeister" as a true imperial dealer but much maligned as he is as ex*****ve as HXX.

Come on guys let me into the inner sanctum!!!

Where does a serious imperial collector go??? shows??? antique auctions??? contacting other collectors?? and if so how does one get in touch with them???

Believe it or not, there are several reliable vendors on Ebay. That is where some of the best buys are...still.

Please email me at wehrmachtsanitater@yahoo.com

Rod, every forum has its own flavor. Here it is mostly daggers, at WAF bagdes etc... If you want imperial go to GMIC.

Dond... yes I more than realize the various forums have certain emphasis.

BUT... since there is an imperial slot here I was hoping it might gather those with the same interests.

I would not critize other forums... But I am hoping to see a concentration of interests here.

I am not aware (Dumb me) of what has gone on in this forum but I more than respect the knowledge of those that reside here.

Actually I have seen some really sarcastic comments on other forums regarding dealers, etc.....

I really like the guys on here and was only trying to stimuate some reactions.

For what it is worth I think the efforts of Craig to get this forum going was stellar!!!

I don't want to kick up any dust ... just encourage imperial interest.

What I am finding that that real strength of Germany was not in the TR but in the prior history what eventually mislead and misused that strength and value.

ohhh well I have said far too much.

Happy collecting.

Gentlemen,

I agree it would be great if we had more collectors interested in imperial goods of all types - anything basic would be helpful to many of us. I'm less than a novice in this area but if I can help someone I'll sure try. At times I don't even know what to say or add that'd be constructive so I keep my trap shut.
... I never mean to slight anyone.

PaulR just posted some of his nice medal bars, thanks for that mate! I recently bought my first medal bar after quite a few years of collecting - an interesting imperial/TR four-place unit. Maybe I could post that one onto one of your threads?

I'll also try to post a few imperial shooting medals from time to time if you'd be interested in looking at some of those?

For now, good hunting to all !

If any of you guys know other Imperial Era collectors, please contact them and tell them about us. I hope we can generate more interest in this area.

I reread the postings to my original query.

I want to be sure I am not misunderstood. In no way .. absolutely no way am I being critical of this forum. So much work has been put into this forum by Craig and others that it seems a shame there is not more activity in the imperial section. I have learned a good bit about the TR collecting here (although I am still a babe in the woods) and would like to do that same with the imperial period.

I am just trying to understand what is going on with imperial collecting. Sure would be nice to be able to see the imperial offerings of other dealers in addition to the Der Rittmeister. I need to get a better idea of what is being collected as well as get an appreciation of reasonable price ranges.

The other forums are ok even when I do think they can get caustic about dealers. But I sort of like German Daggers and would really like to see more imperial interest. Geessshhh I can't really contribute until I know moreeeee...

Hope I am being understood.

Rod, I believe there are a couple of german dealers that have Imperial sections on their sites. I will attempt to locate their web address's.
As to Imperial I would agree there is much to learn. I have been interested for a time but the learning process has been slow for me.
I intend to stick with miniature collecting as far as Imperial medals go. Helps hold the cost down. Wink

You might check out Weitze's site. He is a high priced dealer in Germany, but he has outstanding stuff. With the current value of the dollar vs the euro, it is pretty tough justifying buying any high dollar items out of Europe right now.

Stephen Previtera (The Iron Time author) has a site that gives some very simple and direct collector suggestions.

I count myself with the 3rd reich collectors vs. the Imperial collectors, but I enjoy reading most of the posts here. I don't know much about, or find that much Imperial German so I can't contribute like I do with the WW2 things. But I do appreciate the history, the artisty, ane the regalia.

If I were to "go round" again I think I would have foucused on the Imperial Spkike helmets.

Rod, I must admit to feeling like yourself at times, I have found that since I have been collecting Imperial/Weimar items that the only good reference is going to the show circuit and picking up anything that takes your fancy, not many of the earlier items have been re-produced certainly not in my experience anyway.I also collect from the 3rd Reich but find that a very large majority of Imperial items are of better quality and look fantastic.Perseverance is about all there is available to us when collecting this earlier stuff. There's some great guys on this forum who I know love to see the earlier items.
I was lucky enough to meet a few guys who has steered me through the sometimes minefield of collecting and peeked my interest in the Imperial Era.

Thanks to all for the sympathetic support. I have checked the suggested dealers, but nothing "grabs" me.

However,Der Rittmeister has an absolutely beautiful Saxon St. Heinrich Knight's Cross that is slowing seducing me. ...... hummmmm .. to be or not to be? .... that is the question.
Has anyone seen it???

Why is it that experience is only acquired after you don't need it???
