This weekend Business Week TV did a segment on WWII collectibles. They spoke to me about helmets. There is also an article in the current issue (I did not write it). And there is a slide show online: http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/09/collecting/index_01.htm?chan=searchI told them they need to get the prices right. Check out the price range they say for a German helmet!

Wish all non-collectors would follow their helmet pricing. Thats the darndist looking MP40 Ive ever seen.

I think the M1 Carbine was just an example. The info on the non-firing guns was sort of bad. I might call the producer of the TV segment, and let him know. I've written about non-firing guns and I try to be extremely careful about what I say. Laws are different, and some communities/states these things are banned.
I wish they'd put the segment online. They interviewed a guy about patches, another guy who is a uniform collector and me about helmets.

Peter,
Despite the deviation between the articles's prices and reality I think it was a decent segment. At leats it brings a little "good" attention to the hobby when we're used to seeing the usual bad stuff.
I would have liked to have seen how a German dagger guy's prices would have astounded the producers.

Nice collection Peter.
Did the TV station not let you show any WW2 German helmets? Antiques roadshow won't allow 3rd Reich militaria from being shown for fear of offending viewers.
I am sure the uniform collector had a few German tunics but did not show them,he just mentioned the quality of tailoring.

Thanks Glenn. I showed a number of different helmets during the taping actually. They were at my place for 30 minutes of taping. But I actually choose not to show any German helmets. My feeling was that I wanted to be careful it wasn't taken out of context. I gave them nothing to use. (I'm a journalist by trade, so I know one sound bite can be turned around -- thus I never even mentioned a German WWII helmet. I did show several Pickelhaubes)

Thanks Peter,
That is what I thought. A shame the public has this view towards anything 3rd Reich.
