Recently i had to sell most of my dagger collection to pay a few bills. At the end of it all thanks to the woefull Aussie dollar i actually had a little left over. So i took a punt on an email i recieved from Essen. And this is what arrived in the post today.

Sorry to hear about your having to sell off daggers for life's curveballs but what a nice sword. I'm not a sword guy but that blade is a screamer! Do you have any info on Wilhelm?

Nice sabre with crossed sabres. Attached find a pic how these swords also were worn during "the" period (yes, its an identical one with the crossed sabres, perhaps hard to see in this scan). Also your other sabres are quite interesting, the EICKHORN Mod 1715 and the EICKHORN Mod. "Roon" with the oak leaf instead the eagle on the crossguard are quite rare and are looked for by a lot of sword collectors. Regards,

Wotan- I totally agree regarding the Roon with the single oak leaf sprig. They are tough to come by. I have been collecting oak leaf langet Heers for awhile as a sort of sub genre of Army sabers. This particular Roon is not the easiest to find. Values on these vary and the market for these is interesting. Alot of casual collectors dismiss these because they are devoid of the NSDAP symbol. Personally I think these are wonderful pieces. I've been keeping my eye open for this model Eickhorn for some time but don't want to spend a fortune on one. That particular Roon is one of the last oak leaf langeted pieces I need to complete the oak leaf collection.

Thanks one and all for the comments - I am in the process of running some enquiries through the Bundesarchiv to see if I can dig up any info on 'Willie'. Also thanks for posting the great pic Wotan. Here is the color panel from the Eick catalogue - interstingly the langlet changes in 1938 to not have the 'balls' by the swords. This pic shows the version I have.

Etched post Imperial era sword blades are not that common. With made to order custom etched blades being an even smaller fraction of the group as a whole. Very Nice!! FP
