Got this awhile ago. Marked M1/63.

Not real big on this badge. One of the problems I see is that the pin plate should be a molded part of the badge. From the pic it looks like a seperate piece. JMO.

I don't think this badge is correct wrong material artificial aging , Anyone ssen one made like this ??

Have noted aluminum examples in the past. Will look for links.

M1/17 pin is attached differently but have seen tinnies with the M1/63 set up before.

Not the best example of a retaining assembly but untill I locate better.

Did they ever make a non marked version of this treffen badge? I seen on for sale on an auction site. It is solid back with no markings.

The M1/17 Assmann solid backed badge is the most common and accepted version.

SSmann, an unmarked solid back would sure make me look in detail. Can you post an image or link?

Joe. The the unmarked treffen badge I mentioned is on gunbroker. The item # is 92790343 It is not proper to use other peoples pictures without permission so I just used the item number.

unmarked stamped tin badges are as common as the marked badges IMO

Paulbear. The unmarked badge I am talking about is not tin but looks to maybe aluminum?

Here's a bad pic of my Assmann solid backed badge.

It's made of zinc.

It doesn't have the bent point guard you normaly see and it does not appear to have been snipped off.

..I'm very happy to have stumbled across this thread...I also have a M1/63 that I have been trying to get confirmed as either 'good' or 'bad'...

...I have posted the same images on WAF, AHF, and GMIC....in an attempt to find out for sure if the badge is genuine or not...

...I know that many favour the M1/17 and M1/35 variants...but who knows about the M1/63 variant for sure ???

...the comments that I have received so far are:

1/ M1/17 & M1/35 variant have 'moulded' pin attachment, unlike the 'clasp-like' attachment found on the M1/63....

2/ M1/17 & M1/35 letter 'G' in Braunschweig has a horizontal capped tail, i.e exactly like this font = 'G'.....the M1/63 has a more vertical uncapped tail on its letter 'G'...

3/ M1/17 & M1/35 has one less '.' in the date...the M1/63 has two '.' in its date...

M1/17 & M1/35 = '17/18.Oktober'

M1/63 = '17./18.Oktober'



...so what is the truth of it all ???

Claymore, did you note the M1/63 example in the link above that showed the round pin plate? It also had a period behind the 17./18.
I see no reason why the set up in question could not be period on these aluminum versions. Some aluminum tinnie pins were held in place in this way.

My one question would be the impressed RZM M1/63 as opposed to raised.

...this is my first 'Braunschweig'....and what a mine-field it has turned out to be!

Do any tinnie examples support the impressed maker marks?

Does any one have a St&L. catalog showing this badge?

...what I find fascinating about collecting SA tinnies, is that many of the 'tinnie' manufacturers are still around today...some are still producing badges, others have moved into other disciplines...

...there is one manufacturer that I'm aware of who now produce die-cast 'collectable' toy-vehicles...at the top end of the market...

..and with regards to the M1/63 manufacturer, Steinhauer&L�ck....they are still producing badges and awards to this very day...

...and I firmly believe in the principal of 'if you don't ask, then you don't know'...

..so with that in mind....I've emailed St&L, to ask if they can verify if they indeed produced a 'Braunschweig' badge during the war years...

Claymore, good idea. I have checked into the St&L site on and off for a couple of years now observing their shooting awards.
