I picked this knife up at a local show and i seen 1 similar on the internet but not sure if its correct. It is stamped waffen-loesche berlin on 1 side but i do not find any other markings. The knife overall is in very good shape the screw looked like someone turned them but then stag plates are not loose at all. Any ideas on this piece thanks

Nice looking Luftwaffe Forestry bayonet. Stag grips with spanner nut configuration looks completely correct from your pics so don't worry. All those that I've seen have been distributor marked Waffen-Loesch Berlin. Some have had "Ch.A.W." on the other side which is been thought to stand for Chromolit Arthur Wingen. Some are inventory numbered too, sadly mine is not.

It's possible the bolts are rusted in place so if you look to remove the grip plates, take care not to snap the bolts which can sometimes be brittle. The interesting thing on these pieces is that the blade & hilt are one piece & very well made. Congrats on a nice acquisition, hope you got it for a nice price.

These are fascinating pieces if only because so little is known about them. I have #156, the 1 comes from a different stamp set than the 5&6?? It defies the solid hilt rule in that it is made like a dress bayonet. However it has a Luft waffenampt. Even stranger it's made by Alex Coppel. IIRC it got the thumbs up from Houston, pics should be on the BCN forum.

It would be interesting to record the inventory numbers, I haven't seen a 2xx yet.

I'll have to check my highest numbered one, but here's a 247. Plus another discussion here:

Here's one numbered 454. I did get one of these with a silver army portepee, which looked like it had been on there a long time, but that's the only time I saw a portepee on one of these.
