This is a study of the Allach model 10 by T. Karner.
I think it is one of his finest works and it was one of the very first pieces I acquired after "The Fencer".

The antlers were not permanently affixed and I have elected not to do it either as it may risk damage if I ever shipped it to a new home one day. Comments of an educational or constructive nature are welcomed and encouraged. Last shot..enjoy! Mark

Mark, Were the antlers done that way at the factory are is that a later repair? Either way a great piece!

Erich, I believe that the factory applied them in a manner that allowed them to be easily taken off as the antlers have smaller pegs that fit into the head. I think they were finished better but perhaps not fired under glaze when they were made as they are so massive and fragile it would have caused a lot of breakage in transit to the final user. That's my opinion. I'm real glad you like it. It's very impressive in person. Perhaps my favorite of them all, surely my favorite Karner piece, next to the mouse! Mark

Beauty and quality at its best here! Hey Mark, how about rounding all these babies up sometime and showing us a pic of the Allach farm?

Erich, Yes, this piece as well as other "really good" porcelain stags were made in this fashion. You could send one to a loved one with confidence - and it would have to withstand a trans-Atlantic journey back in the day... yikes! A clever bit of engineering in the artistry. Krner's stag, a great, great sculpture. A moment frozen in time ... W~

Hello Stephane, I would have to do some reading thru past purchase documents to see what I paid for it back a few years ago. I saw it on Dennis Porell's website and I was awestruck. If I had to put a price on it, my thinking would be that it would around the vicinity of $10,000.00. I have never seen another but they must be out there in some collection or maybe I just lucked out. It's like the large Elephant...Dennis said it was magnificent in person and I should buy it but all I saw were pictures until he brought it to the SOS in 2005. I immediately bought it and about 5 other pieces as well. I have not seen another of those Elephants either. The piece that got away in my book was perhaps the most intricate of them all..."The Raven". It was simply magnificent and I would overpay to get it if I could. Daggers for me have paled in comparison to Allach porcelain. Mark

Thank you for you answer Mark. I'm sure you will get the raven some day. I'm new to Allach. Dennis had a great display at the MAX last month, and I couldn't help myself. I bought my first piece of Allach, the Kohlmeise (Great Tit).

You did well to get that bird Stephane. I wish I had gone to the MAX in retrospect. There was more Allach than my research in advance led me to believe. I also would have bought that piece. The birds are very popular now. Congratulations! Mark

Mark, A stunning piece the stag.I read somewhere and I cannot find it that the Liberators of Dachau threw these models all over the workshop smashing them to smithereens.Apparently they were obviously too difficult to transport so let's just destroy them!! You have a stunning and very valuable collection of which you must be very proud.I tend to agree that I would rather have some Allach than a dagger,it certainly displays better through the window!! Regards,Ivan.
