Hello, I've posted this before but I was reading my NSKK book today and came accross this same frog on a dagger, TJ has on in one of his volumes also. My thought is could this be for the NSKK and not the SA before the NSKK split from the SA. Any thoughts?

Fritziii,

The SA and NSKK used mostly three-piece hangers but various frogs and verticals do turn up. If it is black leather, it could be early NSKK. If it is very dark brown, it would be hard to tell for sure.

There is a tendency (hope?) that any frog on an SA dagger is from the Feldhernnhalle SA unit. Who know ?

Dave

Thanks Dave, When I get a chance this week I'll post more pics of it, the dagger is an Ascoloupe and group marked Sw, the frog is black.

I have seen pics of SA troopers navigating a obsticle coarse of sorts with field kit on including entrenching tools but instead of bayonets with frogs strapped to the outside of the entrenching tools they had there SA daggers! ALL of them, 15 or so all had there daggers mounted like this with leather frogs, alot like this one! Many that I could see clearly had fogs with the "curved leather piece" that form fit the bottom of the top fitting of the scabbard.I have seen just a few of these for sale in many years! I would love to have one! Kevin.

It's ALL in the DETAILS!!.......

Looks like a 1938 item-so it's not early-Probably NSKK but very limited special purpose or experimental. Possibly for motorcycle rider.
