OK...granted it is not quite as interesting as that other old M35 in the recent post...but still interesting.

This M35 helmet has a 39 dated liner band, a 39 dated chinstrap and an ever so faint 39 dated domestamp. The helmet is a former DD that has been over-painted in a lime green color. Decals completely covered with the thick paint but a hint of one can be seen in outline.

I just picked this one up but After I got it home, i realized that I have it's brother here already. (you'll see in the last pics...

note how the interior is painted up to the liner band. Some of the lime paint has spilt onto the liner band and the edges of the leather.

This one is an M40. same thick paint, same brush stroke pattern, same type of paint runs and drip marks on the inside. the surface seems a bit darker and a bit shinier but I am sure this is due to post-war handling.

The two of them together. The M35 which is at left has been less handled and still retains much more flatness to the paint. Except in the raised areas of the brush-strokes. The M40 at right has a lot more handling wear and patina but the base color is fairly un-mistakable.

Nice pair of combat helmets, Ken. The owners could have been in the same unit together as the helmets are virtually identical, save for the patina. Great comparison.

Certainly an interesting comparison, Ken. We sometimes come across a collector owning twin camo brothers with the same color and the same scheme, claiming they were found at different time and place. I'm not really sure if they came from the same unit or not, but I can tell German helmet camouflaging followed a certain set of patterns (possibly field directives) to create exactly the same camoed helmets. Just my two cents.
