I'd say it's a 99.9% that nickel finish isn't factory. I'm not sure how you could tell factory nickle from a good quality nickle job done on a firearm that wasn't pitted. I saw your question posted on Still's forum. If anyones different, some of those guys will.

I dont have anything to say about the PPK but I have a Sauer 38H with an eagle n marks. What does the eagle n stand for? I know what some of the letter codes are but I never found any reference to the eagle n. Thanks, Mark

On April 1, 1940 the German Proof Law of 1939 became effective. From that point onward, German weapons were proofed with the Eagle N proof. Prior to this date, they were proofed with the Crown N proof.

So does this mean that my weapon was a private purchase because it isn't marked to go to the police/navy/army/etc.??? Mark

PPK with Eagle C is rare pistols for your info. I do bealive the Germans delivered 50 000 pistols with Eagle C too the Police F. I have one of this type in my collection before. Taken from a German officer in my homecountry. LH

PPK pistols with the police Eagle/C acceptance mark are not particularly rare. There were some 43,500 of them made. Those with Eagle/F markings are much more scarce with only 1,500 of them accepted. Pistols in the 35xxxxk range should be finished in high polish blue or military blue. Nickel plating would be improper for a police issue pistol in this sn range I am afraid. I would return it for a refund if you can.
