Some of you guys out there must have some shooting awards, whether it be medals, badges, edged weapons of maybe stuff like this. Lets see some of what you have.

This piece is a Gau Nordsee DSB award from 1942 in it's case of issue.

Awards can come in all shapes and sizes, this one is a hunting horn, the same pattern as the DJ horns but without the silver embellishments, inscription reads "Schiesspreis 1937 Danzig".

I have noticed that this type of catch was used throughout the Imperial/Weimar and 3rd Reich periods on all sorts of award boxes/cases.

Gary,

It looks like you've got a good handle on that new camera of your's, I could tell the new shots straight away - nice!

The Besteck/Ehrengabe details came out especially well, there's some first-rate craftsmanship going on there.

Denny, beautiful to see something marked this nicely, is it still a good shooter?

Here's another good one for the pile, simply marked - Preisschiessen 1909

"Wehrmanngewehr der Tiroler
Standschützen"

Here's something that is shooting related but not really an award. This military style target rifle is basically identical to the Wehrmannsgewehr. The quality of manufacture and finish is on a par with any pre-war Mauser sporting rifle. It has a deep commercial blue with beautiful wood.
This particular rifle was made for the Tiroler Stand Schützenverband Vorarlberg, an Austrian Tyrolian Shooting Club. The Mauser banner logo has been moved from it's normal location on the receiver ring to the receiver bridge. The receiver ring bears the Tyrolian Schutzen Verband insignia w/swastika and the initials T.ST.V. The caliber is 8,15x46, a popular hunting/target round. The rear sight is adjustable up to 300 meters and has micro adjustment for windage.
Best guess is that these were purchased by the Tyrolian Schutzen Verband. In 50 years of collecting, I have seen or heard of only eight of these rifles - including one that is consecutively numbered to mine.
I realize this may not be the proper thread for this, but thought the JagdMeisters here might appreciate seeing it.

Denny,

I for one am extremely happy that you showed this here. I collect the badges of the Tiroler Stand Schützenverband Vorarlberg, & it's great to see another item from them Cool

Thanks for showing it.

Cheers
Don

Thank you Don.
I'm glad it was appreciated. Of the 50 or so Mauser rifles I own, this is one near the top of my favorite list.

Denny,

A very nice rifle - especially neat to see the Tirolean club-logo marking too, first time that I've seen that. Great addition to the thread! Smile

Here's an oldie-but-goodie from Gary's collection - dated just a couple months after our own civil war started ...

Don,

Tried to email you but couldn't get through,
could you pop me a line please?

Best!

Bill, thats a great piece, better than I thought it would be,thanks for posting it. Lets add this piece to the pile, WKC marked, a MG shooting competition in 1939. Note the clamshell attached to the top scabbard mount, I have only ever seen this on either WKC or WK&C hirschfängers.

You guys are killing me, some really nice pieces. I saw the last one (WKC) Gary picked up at the SOS and it is really nice in person. Ron, im surprised Houston hasnt tried to talk you out of your Shooting bayonet.

Earl, I have more of these and Houston is working on me everyday. As you know, I DO COLLECT also and love the ugly heads, especially presentations and military shooting prizes.

Ron,

I remember that terrific piece. I love the vine and floral background etch. What maker is it?

This is something similar although I had mistakenly remembered it as being awarded for shooting.

Here's the reverse. It came in a beat up cardboard box with the cotton flocking, I don't know if that was it's original housing. Unfortunately it wasn't form fitted.
