A real neat piece for the BUTCHERS GUILD . The traditional graduation gift was the knife hone as we have here and made by our favorite maker F DICK. The dedication reads EHRENSTAHL DER FLEISCHERINNUNG ZU BERLIN FUR ERICH DIETZ ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEN 30 MARZ 1931

Hi Paul,
That's a nice one and I've never seen one w/a dedication. F Dick must have had the monoply on these knife sharpeners. You should post this one on Houston's forum, jager posted some very old sharpeners as well. Those Butchers had some cool stuff.

Paul,

A very interesting piece. I don't think any of us have seen too many of these pieces but I would say one with a dedication makes it rare bird indeed. Please post a shot of the dedication if you can.

Paul, Yep, The Butcher's Guild is one of the many unusual TR Organizations. The buckle is written up and is in the "Buckle Book."

I even remember seeing The Butcher's Guild on Parade, on Horseback - while wearing their white aprons. (BUT...can't remember where it was.)

Now you need a Genuine Preserved TR "Hot Dog."

"In 1852, the Butcher's Guild in Frankfurt-am-Main created a smoked, spiced sausage in a thin casing, dubbed a "little-dog" or "dachshund sausage" for its obvious resemblance to the low-riding German dog. Its other popular name was, of course, the frankfurter. Wiener comes from a similar sausage made in Vienna. Unlike the usual wursts, dachshund sausages were usually sold with bread.

In 1871, an immigrant German butcher opened the proto-hot dog stand at Coney Island, selling the dachshund sausages wrapped in a milk roll. By 1893, the portable meat-tubes were already a regular accompaniment to baseball games and other sporting events - known as HOT DOGS."

Thanks for the follow up. Dave/dblmed

Gary, can you provide a different angle on the Henckels knife sharpener? I can't picture how it works. Very cool and massive though!

Hi John

This type sharpener is very European, I'm not sure if you guys have ever used this type often, the idea is to draw the knife across the discs in one fluid motion, it works well. It might look big but it's only 3.5" wide x 2.5" high. This piece is pictured in the Henkels catalouge of 1926 and 1930.

Cheers

Gary
