HI All, I am posting a few pix (more if you need them) of a dagger that was given to me and has been sitting in a box since the 80's. Since I am new to this hobby I really do not know anything as I am still learning bit and pieces by reading this forum. Please tell me about this and what to do about the grey spotting on the blade if anything. Regards

Use some Semi-Chrome one the blade it takes some TLC but it will shine up also be careful around the Seig Fried Waffen trademark, the semi chrome will lighten it up so don't really use it around the trademark. And after you do that get the semichrome all cleaned off the blade then just spray some silicon on the blade and let it dry up over the blade good( Silicone displaces water and protects the blade from future corrosion) then wipe the blade to a shine again and it should be ready for storage, This is how I've alwayed stored mine and have not had a problem at all with it. The rest of the dagger looks awesome and I woundn't touch it beside cleaning and protecting the blade. And also a big welcome to the forum hope you stick around and grow with us here!!

Ian: Number 40 on my version of the list is Klaas. I think this was a list I printed off GDC awhile back. What is the source of yours? Jim

Welcome to the site. The crossguard looks to have lacquer on it,don't use semi-crome on it as it may remove it

Thanks Ian: I printed it off. If anyone wants a copy just click on the upper left hand side of the document and then click on the printer icon. BTW: The one difference in my list is there is a rarity factor assigned to each maker. Jim

Thanks for all the info and the welcomes!
Here are several more questions for you all.
1) After buying and testing some semichrome I noticed after two applications to the test area when wiping off the cloth still comes out black - should I keep repeating until it is cleaner?
2) Without having a reference book can you guy tell me about the parts - did this maker buy parts and build daggers or make their own?
3) The fitting just above the crossguard looks to be a different material and of higher quality can someone shed light on this?
4) When gently grasping the crossguard I can move it is this normal or should this be tightend up?
Sorry for all the questions.
Regards

John 1) Continued use of simichrome will damage the blade since simichrome is an abrasive. When used Always go with grain of blade, perpendicular to spline. DO NOT use it on fittings. It will remove plating. 2) EPack normally used their in-house made fittings, but one can find some generic fittings used by EPack from time to time. 3)The ferrule is made of plated steel normally and does have a different look than either the crossguard or pommel which utilized a different base metal. 4)The looseness you describe could be caused by a loose pommel (don't overtighten as you will break the grip a/o damage the internal threads of the pommel) or a grip that has shrunk a tad over the years.
EPacks are very desriable Army daggers. Normally well made and many w/engraving enhancements to the fittings (done by hand at factory). They made a lot of Army daggers and can't be considered more than common. They did make a few with different characteristics such as aluminum fittings that can be considered rare, though. Their very early products are also much in demand due to the workmanship that went into them. Denny
