Hello friends, I recently was given this WW2 Motorcycle helmet by the widow of the owner. He was with the Polizei at Mannheim Germany during the war. He has his helmet preserved and as the lady heard of my intend of the new WW2 Museum at Mannheim, she gave me this helmet for it. It looks great and has no problems. And this is what makes me curious, it looks so dam good! Just to keep me happy can you look over it and let me know your opinions on it, please? Thanks very much! Dirk

I'm not all that familiar with these due to rarity, although this example appears like the Austrian version of the polizei helmet used by armored car troops with the higher dome and single vent?
Are there any interior markings on or under the liner and is the front modified to accept the German eagle insignia? Need a better picture detail of the actual insignia to help determine if original.

Hi Dave, I looked inside and found no markers. The liner is well intact, so I lossend it on the frint to see how the eagle is attached. I tried to talke a picture but it came out bad, so I will discribe it: The eagle has 2 or 3 metall loops wich are stuck thru the helmet. To keep it in place, a kind of metall is stuck thru the loop. I cannot tell if the eagle was modified or not. I hope this will help! Thanks ! dirk

Yeah, that very well could be the case. Like I said, I'm not all that familiar with them, which is partially a lack of interest. I also went back and found some some old pictures to look at and the Austrian example does look different. Although I don't have good pictures of the interior of both for comparison. Good call Gary!

Dirkio1 you could also consider that the eagle was put on there for extra cash value to fool people, which is more likely the case.

Would a tanker's helmet have a neck cover, as this one has? I can understand the value of a motorcycle operator needing such protection, as he is always exposed to the weather. Was it converted for motorcycle use?
I have a black NSKK motorcycle helmet that has a very similar rear cover. The front style of the helmet is significantly different then this Italian model. Joe

Joe, There were some earlier models with neck cover/flap such as one of the Austrian models. The later official police Sturzhelm did not have a neck flap.

Thank David
I have a rural police motorcycle helmet that has a short,(narrow}, elastic rear flap and the long sides that tie under the chin, as well as a chin strap
The black NSKK one has a much longer protective flap.

Hi friends, thanks for al the information. I wated to let you know that an other expert send me the folowing opinion, he deals mostly with this kind of helmets: Hi Dirk, I write you again, because I don't know how but not all the photos you sent me opened last time. This morning looking better to the jointed pictures I tried to open everything and I discovered, opening the photo showing the liner of the crash helmet, that I hadn't seen last time, that the tanker's helmet is not an Italian M.32, but a Spanish one of the post war period. The analysis however doesn't change at all, in fact the nazi police badge is unproper for such a helmet, and as previously said it has been put on later. That's all. Sorry for my mistake, but I hadn't seen the photo of the liner that is very different from the Italian one !!!! Bye, PaoloM

So, I think we have solved this one together, It is great having you!!

Agree with DIRK101. Spanish Franco period motorcycle helmet. A bunch came out in the 1970's and someone added insignias. They pop up once in a while. Although there are no repros of the motorcycle helmets that I know about but they have to look like the Brown pictured. Came in three flavors, brown, black and white.
