Hello,
I just bought a new computer and in about a month my norton virus stuff will come to an end. I don't wish to pay for updates and was very happy with the free version of avg that I had on my older computer. When the time comes I would like to install the updated free version of avg on my new computer, are there any issues or problems installing avg and using it with the new windows vista system? and are there any specific things I'd have to do to make sure I have no problems installing it if it is able to be used on vista? Thanks for any help.

I use the AVG 7.5 Internet Security (antivirus, firewall and antispyware) full version with Vista and it works perfect.
Shouldn't be the problem with free version as well.

You just may have some problems with getting rid of what will remain of Norton after uninstall.
I heard there's some special software to remove Norton.

Update - Have just checked the free AVG website - New 7.5 version is fully compatible with Vista.

Its worth checking out NOD32 as well, I currently use this on a 64bit Ultimate edition of Vista and you dont even know its there, uses minimal resources, scans every file downloaded or installed on your PC in the background and constantly monitors E-MAIL, OFFICE PROGS, INTERNET and has an ON-DEMAND SCANNER.
I had never tried this program before and wouldnt use anything else now.
BTW Vista is top !!

I concur!
NOD 32 is absolutely No.1 antivirus.
I'm just too lazy Cool to install separately antivirus, firewall and antispyware, so I use AIO AVG 7.5 Internet Security but I know some day I'll return to NOD 32.

You will hear alot of negative feedback online about Vista, this is either from people who havent even tried it or from the initial conception when there was not alot of support for drivers, video / audio etc.
Now the big names have added support and software is finally being upgraded to accomodate the new OS its well worth giving it a try. There are tons of new additions over XP and not just the visuals. Since installing I have not found one program that wont run, that I used to use on XP.
The system is clever in that if you have a 64bit PC and decide to take advantage of this, and install the 64bit OS it creates 2 program file folders, one for 32 bit, the other 64 and hence you can run the majority of XP programs no problem and have the advantage of readiness for 64 bit programs and games as they are developed.
The built in security features are excellent and the only annoyance was UAC ( user account control ) which is easily disabled.
For the kids amongst us, its great running a looping video as your desktop background with dreamscene which is packaged with vista ultimate Smile.
Be warned though, you do have to have some computer knowledge and be prepared to search for software, at least for now, if not wait 6 months and the software manufacturers would have caught up!.

I like Vista, although it's much different than XP. It's got the Mac OS X feel with the traditional Windows menus. I've ran across some applications that won't work however and be prepared to have some serious horsepower and RAM in order to run Windows Aero.

I would suggest that anyone who is considering an upgrade to Vista, first run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor here.

Regards,
Aaron

This suggestion shows up always before installation and it's a VERY good advise, even if not 100% accurate.
It has detected in my PC the Realtek sound card (integrated with MB) which will NOT work with Vista .... It didn't work after installation was completed, but was just enough to download and install the new driver and everything is OK.
Love vista!
