Picked this up the other day for a few bob. It seems to be the real thing but is white for some reason. Can any one explain why this should be. Unless it has been used by a theatre group or similar. And why this should turn up in a garage in Cheshire UK is anyone's guess.
Made by Hawley Products Co with a contract no and date of 4-8-1943

Does the pith have a grommet hole on the front so The EGA / Eagle Globe & anchor device can be affixed? I have never seen a USMC pitch helmet that did not have the front hole.

There is no evidence of any badge being fixed to this helmet. The top photo is of the front. As you can see no grommet hole.
So if used by the Navy would they have been white?

You see them in whitish, khaki, and green. (also blue for US postmen)
It could actually be one for the civilian market. I'll see if I can find any info on the guy in the NARA database
