Here is a nice photo of a post war police officers uniform being worn by a female, what is interesting is that she appears to be wearing an M42 - M44 police jacket with war time collar patches, any thoughts and comments wlcome

Gary,

A neat postwar photo. Is the cap insignia that of Berlin, I can't quite make it out?

The tunic certainly looks like a wartime man's tunic to me. The cap is either immediate postwar or at least the band has been altered. Usually females wore the Einheitsmtze (aka M-43) instead of the Schirmmtze. The uniform looks like making do with what was available to me. Women were drafted into the roles of traffic policemen pretty quickly after May of 1945 since the traffic lights did not work. I suspect she was uniformed with what was available with wartime collar tabs but without rank boards. I would think the tunic is probably old wartime issue since it was not made for a woman as it buttons the wrong way.

Just my two cents.

Very nice photo. I agree with George, most likely an rather early post war photo.

Not sure about the hat, although my suspicion is a war time hat (appears some insignia was removed at the top) that has been altered for police use. What is interesting to me is the hat badge. Your right George, it is Berlin. But it almost looks a hand embroidered version as opposed to a metal. If I am correct about this, it is almost certainly a photo from late 1945 / early 1946.

By 1947, Berlin had in place patches, rank, and hat badges and the uniform shown does not conform to those regs.

The use of the black hat band is appropriate for use by the police equivalent of EM/NCO.

Andrew
