I didn't spy another thread listing our blockade runners. I'll start it off with this heavy example I acquired a few months back.

C'mon fellas. How 'bout 'em.

For those of you who belong to WA, there is an interesting one being discussed over the last couple of days. It appears to be a cast copy, with some nice detail to the obverse. The reverse is the biggest giveaway. Good enough to fool many of us, including myself (especially as a newer badge collector).

I do not know much about these badges, so I look forward to seeing other examples and info on them.

Dave I believe they were awarded to mechant marines that made it thru the blocade to deliver material to Germany. Just my thought.

Correct. For award to Merchant Marine and naval personnel.
Could be awarded for a sucessfull run. An action acquired wound.
For duty above and beyond in saving the ship from the enemy, scuttling met the criteria.

Worn on the lower left of uniform. A miniature for civilan dress could be worn on the lapel. (Large sized miniature).

Have never seen the miniature in wear on a photo. Has anyone run across a picture showing the mini?

Tacking this discussion on before it gets too far separated from this link.
