This is great, Gaspare! I've never seen that photo. It must date from the 2nd half of 1939 to the 1st half of 1940 when Grau was on duty at the Siegfried Line (Westwall) as a soldier ... I urgently like to have it for my article to be published. It will be quite in time. I send you an e-mail as requested ... and my sincere gratitude.

*odal,I agree,,that's a rare variant of the original WW for ladies,,very nice!
*ringman,,yes, be very careful as they reproduce these rings very well..
*Welcome Feldwebel I.,, 2 very nice rings. The skull is getting harder and harder to find..Your 'bunker/barbwire ring is another hard one to find especially with the variant sides of West and Wall on each side..

I think the earliest (silver)- copies here in germany are sold to veterans and collectors in the early 70ies.
I - myself - own a ss-ring, given from the brother of my grandfather in 1972 or 1973, but complete fantasy and grand-uncle Albert was in the SS (Div. "Das Reich")
I think much copies and fakes are all around - some copies from original old dies - hard to say which time some rings made.

BB. Gottfried is supposed the one to [blame?] start making those wire bent circular WW rings. A enterprising guy considering he was supposed to be on duty.. Short lived fame as his production soon stopped after a few speech's condemning such pieces.. Jewelers/commercial manufacturers were quick to pick up production and even the 3rd Reich itself as they actually made a WHW model!
Odals right. There is tooling out there. But its a big cost to make them the way they were made. What happens is usually a rubber mold is made from the tooling or one mint factory exmple ring and then produced by the newest methods of lost wax casting...

It's taken me this long to notice that the bunker on my ring has 1 gun slit when most others I've seen have 3!

Not a problem BB. I own a master die for that ring,,it has 3 'windows' [and a high 3].. But,,doesn't mean that one firms working dies didn't start getting wear on one of the outside windows so the repair could have been to eliminate the windows on each outside..

I have the same ring but without the eagle/swastika. Mine has the dates,1939- 40
Thats a really good ring. Haven't seen one with the eagle like that.. Hope you bought it!!!

These are very well known wartime period rings.. There are examples on pages 1,2 and 3 of this very thread. I have the exact ring but without Eagle&Swas, I believe its on page 3. It came in a small grouping directly from Germany from the family of the German vet that brought it home... Now I am looking for a red glass one!

bob i put a bid on this ring ,but i still admit these worry me i know i'm only 4 years into collecting but in the last six months this is the 9th or tenth one ive seen  shakey legs for me i'm afraid !!

E - They don't mention any markings, and seller wasn't sure the ring was silver. It REALLY reminds me of the one I have. I finally took mine to two jewelers last week who said it's not silver! I don't think this one is either, now. Sorry if I put someone off it. - Bob
