Nice Sword.... It looks way much Better than OK!!
It would rate up there as an 8-9 out of 10, from what I see!
Copper Grip Emblem is fine on these.
For WKC, you might get lucky and find their "SS" mark on the other side of the blade.
Scabbard is so good, "could" be a repaint, but that's OK too.
The Knot looks good at first blush. But, other photos would be great to see. Txs, Dave/dblmed

Sorry-but IMO its not OK. Sword is for an NCO but has an Officer grip emblem inserted in the grip. Correct emblems are much different and never copper as far as I have ever seen. Scabbard looks very much like a repaint. Knot is the unidentified type, never seen in a period photograph or listed in any known period regulation.

I am afraid that I agree with Houston. This style of grip eagle is incorrect for this NCO sword as it should be a flat aluminum police eagle inset into the grip. It may be an improper replacement for a de-nazified grip but combined with the repainted scabbard and sword knot, this sword has been monkeyed with.

OOPS... I will certainly defer to Houston & ORPO's assessment on this Polizei NCO Sword. Experience & Keen Eyes. Now, that it is pointed out, Yes, the Officer's Grip Eagle does stand out as being the Large Eagle Device & Not the Smaller NCO Eagle Insert.(I'll need to go back to TW's book for a refresher course on Polizei Swords! ( Txs to the Pros.. Dave/dblmed

I thought that I remembered something about ‘Copper’ Eagles on the Police Degens from TW’s book. I checked it again, and on page 472, line 5, Tom says
"……while the officer police grip insignia was more ornate & usually featured a painted or oxidized black background, the insignia used in the NCO grip a grip was a simple stamped design of Aluminum, similar to the bayonet grip eagle. The Officer grip insignia was stipulated to be of a light metal with a silvered finish, but most often examples are of stamped Copper having a Silver finish. More often than not, the silver finish has disappeared due to mishandling, improper storage or excessive cleaning…."
I got the Officer Grip insignia confused with the NCO Grip insignia. Sorry.
Here’s a nice example of the Police OFFICER Grip Eagle Insignia which has ‘Coppered’ out, as noted above. Txs, Dave/dblmed

Ok, i did not give any bids on this one. Thanks for the information, here are more pics for the interested. I did not think about the eagle, it was the knot and the painted scabbard that made me think.... Nice SS stamps.

I am NOT an expert on police degens, but I always thought the silver eagle was for the officers and bronze for NCO, which makes sense to me because bronze is a "lesser" metal than silver. At any rate, here is the one that has been in my collection since about 1970 or 1971, are you saying that the pommel cap should be the nco style? I dont think the eagle has been replaced. none of my original source material says anthing about the color of the eagle. Thanks! Joe S

Joe,
This is what the police eagle on a Polizei NCO sword should look like. The eagle on your sword is made like the bronze eagle but is silver in color. The grip eagle on the one in question has been replaced. Notice the fit to the grip.
