My german is a little rusty, but I believe "Bodenfund" would be translated as "ground dug", meaning someone probably found it in their garden after some hoeing around . Which really is confirmed by the pics. Yikes!!

Between this blade and the SS chained dagger you posted recently I think you must be the German Indiana Jones! You really can locate those relics.

Excellent and historic find. I'd like to know in which part of Germany (?) your blade was found? Which were the predominant post-war allied occupiers in that region? Thanks. If you don't mind, I should like to link your thread to this thread: http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/160093.../r/61110996#61110996(This really has been a surprisingly interesting dip. )

Eek! Nats, I can't find it. Did it belong to Sabazius, do we know?

Sabazius posted this six months ago... Why is it such an important blade wasn't discussed (or acknowledged) further by key GD members when it was initially posted?
I'd have loved to have seen if more of the dedication etched on the blade was discernable through all the corrosion.
Of little value to a collector, maybe, but it was a tremendously important find in the history of Röhm dagger production.
We don't even know if it is an SS or SA Röhm variant.
Aargh! How bloody frustrating.
