Could I please get some opinions on this badge please. I am going to sell some of my Luft and Kreigs badges on this site and want to make sure it is 100% first. I need to become a member first, and then this one and others will be for sale. I was told that the maker marks in the back were to horizontally straight, is this true?

derjager, When you say zinc that must mean it is one piece? Is that a rarer type?

Jeff, Zinc or tombac are references to the base metals used. Zinc is used to refer to the alloy, some medals and badges have more zinc in the alloy than others thus the loss (absorbtion), of finish on some and or the zinc pest (white crustation). Zinc is usually an indication of a later issue item. Not a hard and fast rule though. Your badge is not from appearances a one piece badge. There are accepted one piece Aux. Cruiser badges but your example shows the globe held in place with a rivet. I did not note any of the images of zinc Schwerin badges with gold finish on the reverse. Some other manufacturers did finish the reverse. Did you note any comparable differences between your example and the ones on the GMIC site?
Mr. Don Scowen can give you more insight on the GMIC site. It does indeed appear to be an excellent site.

derjager, Thank you for all of that information. I asked the question because I believe that this piece was hand painted before I got it, I mean right before I got it. I had thought it may have been played with but bought it anyway because I was 99% sure it was good and the price was right.

I can not detect any red flags comparing your images and others. Hinge catch and catch plate are correct. Could you post a close up of the maker mark?
