I have just received an HJ that seemed odd and it had a give away price. It is marked on one side the typical AES in a box and on the obverse ricasso it is marked m7/8* (m7/8 star type mark). When I saw pictures I thought it might be a maker marked example rzmed to someone else (Gembrough) When it came I then thought at first if was just a mistamp of the 5 but upon amplified inspection it is definately a star type (*) mark and not a 5. Any thoughts? Russ

Hi Russ
What is the condition of the knife? Could it meant to have been stamped m7/eighty-something, and been mis-stamped m7/8* instead, and perhaps put back on the shelf as a reject?
Or is the * covering another perhaps mis-stamped number to bring it back to m7/8 ?
Regards Russell

No its a star type design. Perhaps a cottage maker for Gembrough. I have seen "a" used, "+" used for cottage makers. the "+" has yet to be3 identified as I guess the "*" will be. Russ
