HI I KNOW VERY LITTLE AND HAVE ABOUT 5 OF THESE I AM LOOKING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM,THIS HAS ENGLAND STAMPED ON THE BROWN LEATHER SCABBARD,AND ENGLAND A NUMBER 4 AND AN ARROW ON THE CROSSGUARD,ALSO A RARITY AND VALUE WOULD BE GREAT.

Hi Matt, I know next to nothing on these but I do have a book . "Commando Dagger" The complete Illustrated History of The Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife by Leroy Thompson. It's published by Paladin
Press ISBN 0-87364-311-9. A quick look through the book but didn't see one exactly like yours. It does look like a third pattern. looking forward to more info on these.

ACTUALLY they are both mine and where from vets here.

its a perfect example of an early 3rd pattern f-s with a drop forge rather then machine made blade it was stamped england after the war and sent to the us as surplus to pay off war debts from the top nut i would say it was made by wilkinsons and is worth around $150

Orginals FS model 3 goes for more now. The prices are going up.
Model 3 sykes in orginal condition and drop forged blade cost from 150 and up . Normal cost for a minty early fs 3 with a nice sheat and forged blade will cost you 450 US.
All depends on markings and quality.

100 % top quality daggers is the best knifes to buy.

But bee aware ! many fake FS knifes out there .

Here a FS First Pattern from my collection.
Used in Norway during the war by an Agent in Kompani Linge.
He was captured in february 45 and tortured to dead sorry...

Hi LH 600, The FS 1st.Pattern is selling in England around $3350 or higher,depending on congition,nats

i see a lot of 1st patterns and the price is �800-1200 but beware wilkinson carried on making 1st patterns long after the war had finished in fact you could still order them as late as the 80`s all the post war knives seem to have been put together using war time parts so its impossible without providence to date them. also the figure of 1200 being made is wrong if the figure was corect there would not be so my around. i know of 8 for sale at the moment compare that to fat boy grip and private purchase nickel 2nd patterns! luckily there are no good fake f-s on the market

Im a FS collector myself and dont buy copies

All my daggers is real. The 1 st pattern you see are used in norway in the war.

i saw that 1st pattern on ebay from the scabbard i would say it was a post war knife
i go to all the uk arms fairs and see a lot of f-s knives 1st patterns fetch ,in the uk, �800-1200 ebay is not the place to get values all it needs is a mug bidder and the price rockets
i collect 2nd pattern f-s and have around 150 what i like about them is production proper stoped in 1942 all are hand made and slightly different and post war ,60`s onwards, versions are very easy to spot even wilkinson sword made ones do not have war time quality
there is a book coming out soon on the 1st pattern using wilkinsons records i think once it in generally know these knives were put together until quite recently the price will fall drastically

Is there a known author writing this book Nick ?
Can you tell us some more of the name of the author and when the book came out ?

Do you have some 1 pattern in your collection ? If so, i hope you will share some pics with us

Hello Tim.

My observation is that collectors have learned not to give specific details on how they determine era and authenticity, etc..
The fact is that the shady sellers and forgers read these forums and adjust their daggers and knives using the information and make better and better forgeries and reproductions.

So you can get an expert informed opinion here but don't expect too much detail in some cases.
