Houston, I have the opportunity to add this dagger to my collection. After reading your collectors guide, I'm more spooked than ever. Any insight you or the forum members could add would be appreciated. No scabbard is available, probably lost to time. Whether period or post, a great deal of craftmanship is apparent.

This dagger does not seem to be right. the blade is a presentation from the ADJV. The ADJV is the pre-nazi Hunting Assn. and it was eliminated around 1935. I can see no reason this blade would be mounted in a Shooting Dagger as we know these blades were presented to hunters and foresters who risked their lives upholding the Hunting Laws.
I have only seen these blades mounted in Hunting and Forestry hirschfangers and Police clamshell bayonets. Also the TM always has been pre-1935 on known originals. This TM is the stamped type used 1935-41 but is upside down.
In addition the style of crossed rifles on the grip does not conform to known originals-and the clamshell emblem appears to have been added. The fittings are plain -not the deluxe type used on presentations of this type.
To conclude-based on the photos( that are not too good) I would say it is probably parts with a possible fake inscription. Lots of red flags here.

Houston, Thanks for your analysis of the dagger photo's. I apoligize for the quality of the image's, it was my first attempt to send an attachment and I seem to have lost a bit of detail while down sizing the photo's. I was not aware of the ADJV. Sounds a bit like the DLV before the NSFK took over. The blade presentation "Ehrengeschenk Des Allgemeinen Deutschen Jagdschutz-Dereins" I believe translates to "A Presentation From The German Hunting Escort Association". I'm unsure about "Dereins". Could this be someone's last name or possibly a region? At any rate, your conclusion that this is probably a parts dagger may be valid. The crossed rifles are not typical of Shooting Association rifles, nor is the stag handle. The Shooting Association badge is definitely pinned on. The thing that really bothers me is the upside down hallmark. I checked the Eichorn Kundendienst and nothing (with the exception of the spear point)has the squirrel head towards the point of the blade. If you care to see a similar dagger (without the presentation or damascus blade), check out Johnson's Collecting The Edged Weapons of the Third Reich Volume II page 289.

Hi Gelb14
I can't add more to Houstons comments, I have seen one other re-pro/parts/fake forestry hirschfnger that had this type of blade with the addition of a Deutsche Jgerschaft badge, as Houston points out the ADJV and DJ were not around at the same time. Here's what a correct ADJV Ehren(Honor) Hirschfnger looks like. The Inscription should read:-
"Ehrengeschenk Des Allgemeinen Deutschen Jagdschutz-vereins"

Gary, Thanks for your input. In a way, I'm a bit disappointed - I thought I had a "find". On the other hand, you guys have saved me from getting burned. Thanks again for your efforts.
