Post a photo of your saber with the funkiest langets. I know some odd ones are out there. Here is the strangest one I have. Saber by Paul Weyersberg and Co. Probably a pre-TR saber.
FYI- the grip and grip wire are not original to the saber. She was totally trashed when I purchased her and needed some TLC.

Interesting Baron. I'm not sure that the posted sword is pre 1933. There were a few 3rd Reich Heer issued swords without the eagle and swas. The Eickhorn Roon pattern immediately comes to mind.

Yea, I'm aware. I've got a number of various post '33 sabers with non-eagle langet sabers. Mostly variations of the crossed oak-leaf sprigs. This pattern I posted is the only one with this distinct patterned langet I have ever come accross. Made by Weyersberg.
I'm still trying to buy the Eickhonr Roon with the single upright oakleaf. To the best of my knowledge, they were the only one who made a saber with that particular pattern. You had one in kinda' rough shape for sale some time ago that ended up being sold. That's a tough saber to find. Even though the demand for it seems relatively low, it's still a rare pattern overall. I don't think it was that popular in TR Germany. In Johnsons newest saber series, he has a photo of that model. I'd need to page through it for the exact page number. It's not featured in Agolia. Only the crossed leaf saber, like stated on pg. 80 and also 159. Various other manufacturers made this style langet including Weyersberg, Holler and WMW. ACS made thier casted, single leaf, double sided langet saber, which I have pre-'33 and a post-'33 examples of.
Something to keep in mind regarding the saber pictured in the original post; it has been significantly doctored. Grip, Grip wire, not orignial to the sword. I had rto replace it after purchase. She was a wreck when I bought her. Totally wrecked. In really bad shape. So dont allow the grip or grip wire to influence ones opinion. The replacement harware can be misleading.

Weyersberg, similiar to one of the Roon models with crossed oak leafs. There are quite a few of these stylized langeted sabers to be found still.

Holler with crossed oak leafs. The grip wire is not original to the saber. If I recall, I had replaced it as the factory wire was wasted.

The blade marking is not the manufacturers stamp. Merely a dist. marking.

Interesting. I always wondered why a guy would buy one of these swords. Perhaps he was not a NSDAP supporter. Just his way of protest, however small it might seem....

I find it interesting as well. I'd think that an officer or NCO, would opt for the normal saber. Perhaps you're right. Maybe for wehrmacht officers who were not member of the NSDAP. I don't really know. In fact I somewhat surprised that manufacturers were granted permission to sell these style sabers. From my experience, they date the latest from the mid to late 30's. Perhaps the time frame played a factor.
There's a photo of Oberst Wilhelm Nadele, decorated RK winner, rolling with a plain hilted NCO style saber in a formal wehrmacht photo. Was it his? Was it a loaner from the studio? Why would he not have a standard style TR officer saber? I dont' really know if he was a party member or not. I get the impression, he was from the "old guard" but cannot say with any certainty.

Yea, what is that sun-face all about? I know the reich was big on Germanic solsctice/winter/occult style teutonic celebration. Does this perhaps have anyting to do with that langet?

Hello,
That's pre TR as it has an Imperial Eagle on the blade but its the strangest langet I have --also a knight's head in 3-d on the guard. Heavy gold plate and damascus blade by PD Lunenschloss.

I`m assuming that this is a Seilheimer product as I have a Dovehead with applied eagle with identical crossguard(minus oakleaves)and same reverse langet.

I figured you'd have a Lutzow. I've always like the 2 tone langets with the silver whermacht eagles. It really puts a nice touch on 'em. There was one on ePoop that sold recently, I think WKC if I recall, that want for a very reasonable price. I missed 'er though.
