i just saw a personalized SA from one dealer, and i have never have one like this: the lower crossguard was engraved 'SA Sturm 12/20 z. Vermhlung 11.4.39'. the seller says it was a wedding gift so it has engraved. does anyone have seen this type before? does that engrave give any influence to the value of the dagger? (up or down?) any idea the actual market value of such piece?

thanks

The problem with most engraving daggers, is the fact that we cannot tell if the engraving was done period or.........yesterday. Big Grin
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 10% premium on such a dagger, unless the engraving can be proven to be period without any doubts.
This type of engraving is quite simplistic and as such, can easily be copied by any good jeweler. Wink

mickhuang you might want to read the code of conduct for this forum which is pinned at the top. If you post a photo from a dealer's website you must identify the dealer. This dagger is on Craig Gottlieb's site. Craig is the founding member of the GDC.

Hope my comments will not offend Craig, as I didn't know that the dagger came from his web site. Confused
I thought the dagger was Mike's.

No problem Mike.
You being new to the forum, you probably didn't know that there were certain rules to be followed and that's alright.
Even I, sometimes forget certain rule of conducts. Wink
If you have any other questions to ask in relation to any edged weapons, you will find GDC to be a great forum to get your informations from.
Good luck ! Cool
