Hopefully someone can help me out on this bayonet. It is a long style army dress bayonet with a stamped 35-41 Eickhorn mark. This bayonet is made more like a combat bayonet, much better, and more rugged. The grips seem to be the hard rubber type. The pomell and hilt assembly are all magnetic steel, not plated pot metal. The scabbard that came with it is a combat 84/98 which is incorrect. Any idea if this was specific to any branch?DRP, police etc.

Mazz,

These are interesting KS98 style bayonets. I believe they are law enforcement related but not Postschutz or Zollschutz as they had their own specific contract bayonets. They are very similar to the RFV marked Zollschutz bayonets but slightly different.

The bayonets like yours will not affix to the Kar.98k but will affix to the Kar.98a used by the Ordnungspolizei. They have a T slot instead of a T/O slot and are often items of issue with serial numbers and property markings on the blades.

Here are some other examples.

Mazz, this type of bayonet IMO falls within the shades of grey, not quite a dress bayo and not a service bayonet. But it's able to fulfill both sides of it. The bayo you pictured with the 35-41 TM is only the second one I've seen, George has the other. The ones I run across are always the double oval Eick. As far as the scabbard goes, I would say period untouched, it's probably blued. Things get changed over the years. I do find this type with the S/42 type scabbards.

I'm still with George on the law enforcement type. They will be found with unit marked or inventory marked, but not always. I'll share a few of mine. You have a very nice piece.

Steve.

Mazz,

Great piece. As Steve mentioned, the '35-'41 maker mark is somewhat of an oddity on this type of bayonet. We usually see the earlier Eick marks. I also like the law enforcement aspect of these pieces. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Mazz,

Here are closeups of the two bayonets with solid pommels that I showed above with the one with a T slot. The existence of this style of bayonet with a solid pommel is another reason I believe they are law enforcement bayonets. This is typical of German Police bayonets where some have a T slot and some have no slot at all and were simply worn as sidearms.

Anyway, here are the maker markings for these two solid pommel bayonets by Eickhorn.

George

The solid pommels you will see often in this type It's hard to throw everything out there that would make sense in one post. Here's three solid pommels, the one in the middle I'm on the fence with, it doesn't conform completely.

Superb stuff and great info too. Don't know why your hearts racing, we Brits are out of the market now thanks to ebay's new policy. Plenty to say about them but it'd get me banned. Long live the King, short live ebay Big Grin.

I agree, gret stuff!

Jim, I feel your pain. If ebay ever bans edged weapons here in the states (and I bet it's only a matter of time), I'd be really bummed. I make a lot of great finds there.

Here's my solid pommel, marked "G19".
