A friends grandfather brought this home from Germany. It is very heavy and the main link is marked E J 800. I think it's tarnished full silver. I'll show the reverse next. I have never seen anything like it.

reverse...the color is actually brown, the fist pic used a flash. This is the color it is. I did not attempt to clean it. The link is oval and is like a knights cross link with the markings stamped into it.

Mark, Looks like a great piece you've found there. Although I can't make out all of the text, (especially the Latin ) it is definitely a high-quality commemmorative to mark the 1000-year anniversary of the town of Quedlinburg. The depiction is that of King Heinrich I. I think this should make for a great addition to your 'darkside' collection, as this was Himmler's personal hero and is closely bound to SS lore and such - see p.99 of Wittmann's SS book for a little more info... Very nice! Bill

Thank you very much Bill. I looked at that page in Whittmann's book and learned a lot. This is a very ornate piece and magnificent to look at. There are no SS markings on it. You can see the fine silver braiding all around the outer rim of this medallion. Mark

I was fortunate to be able to finally purchase this piece today from the current owner. I also have two of the silver medals shown in Whittmann's SS book celebrating his affilliation for Heydrich. Mark

Mark,
All great additions to your collection! If you get a chance, how about a nice group shot?
Best!

Hello John, It was your piece shown in the Whittmann SS book that got me interested in these medalions. One of mine has a number 4 on the back and the other is unmarked. Does yours have any markings? Mark
