I purchased small cigar box full of items belonging to a US serviceman who served after the end WW2 at an old Luftwaffe base converted to US usage. This badge was in the with the rest of the items. Any idea what it is? The collar insignia is given to lend scale to the picture.

Tex, just a guess, European, African Theatre Society? Does it look like something was attached [glued] to the white square box in the middle? Regards, Leipzig

It's been suggested that the EATS stands for European Air Transport Service. This makes probable sense as this fellow was stationed at an old Luftwaffe base that the Allies tookover with items dated in '47 and '48. The 'square' in the center of the badge also loooks to me to be a place for a picture or some other sort of ID information?

Yes, European Air Transport Service is correct. Here's a site with a mention of it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Forces_in_Europe

"In addition, USAFE commanded the European Air Transport Service (EATS), which controlled some C-46 and C-47 transport squadrons."
