Picked this up over the weekend along with a ww2 majors tunic and campaign hat. The ww2 stuff was bought from the vets son. This was in the house and no one knew the story behind it. Looks like summer weight WW1 tunic, has removeable buttons. The collars are marked BLS and the buttons are marked BCS. There is a maker label to a Boston "Academy Clothes" maker or retailer. Anyone have any ideas on this tunic, thanks for looking.

Nice Tunic!

Isn't the stripe down on the cuff a "wound stripe" that was given out for combat wounds before the Purple Heart was used for wounded soldiers?

This is a neat tunic, I bet they were quite comfortable in the summer. I have been racking my brains out (and my research sources) and still have nothing definitive on its identity.

But I think that it was used as an academy tunic. Being that it was tailored on Boston, that "B" in the buttons is for Boston. "Boston State College" or something similar. I have also found a "Boston Latin School" that would work with the BLS on the collar.

And just as a side note the "wound stripes" were worn on the right sleeve in WW1, and were a chevron design. That one looks like it may be a "service" stripe, and the purple color would also relate to the Latin School colors.
