Hello,
I was wondering if someone could tell me what is the best way to protect iron cross medals from rusting.Should I use a gun oil on the medal or is there a better way.The medals I have are in very nice shape and I want to keep them that way.Thanks.This web site is great.

I use Renwax on my EKs and it seems to work really well. If there is any damaging tarnish, it must be removed. Try to remove rust from the core as it will continue to rust. After any cleaning, hit them with the Renwax.

Just my meathod and I think my crosses look good.

Just do a google search for Renaissance Wax.

Germandaggers.com also sells it. Good way to support the forum is to buy from it.

Hello,
I'm new to collecting EK's and would like to know how to stop the rust before waxing the core without damaging the good painted area's. This one has some rust starting around the 3.

Thanks
Eric

Kip,
I have been informed that you should not use anything on the EK's but rather keep them in a dry storage display and use silica beads. this will stop anymore rust from forming, sounds good to me. I do know metal, it's my job so i also know that the only way to perminately stop it is to remove the rusted area and prime and coat the metal.
Now that is not an option with these EK's so the next best thing is to keep them dry and away from moisture and humidity. If you add oil it will loosen the black finish over time and well you get the picture.
Just though i should share that with you Kip.

Beautiful display Sword-Fish!

Eric
