Please let me clarify the following. I do not mean to say that Mr. Wittman in any way vouches for the authenticity of this dagger or renders any opinion whatsoever. I called him when I obtained this dagger because I was surprised at how seemingly plain it was. I thought that a General of the Luftwaffe would have something more elaborte and wondered myself, if it might be a fake. It is not elaborately decorated but is quite plain aside from the few oak leaves etc. He was kind enough to speak woth me and gave the opinion that many high level officers and generals (with the exception of Goering) carried simple daggers. I believe the dagger is authentic. Anyone seriously interested can examine it themselves to their own satisfaction, or for that matter have it examined by an expert at their expense. I just wwanted to make it clear that in no way was Mr Wittman endorsing this dagger. Thanks, Brian O'Sullivan
