Hi!
Ive got a question to this particular fighting-knife.
Dimensions:
Lenght overall: apx. 28,7 cm Blade lenght: apx. 16,2 cm Lenght of the hilt: apx. 12,5 cm Lenght of scabbard: apx. 16,6 cm crossguard: apx. 5,9 cm / 21 mm / 3,4 mm blade: apx. 4 mm "strong", apx 2,6 cm "broad"
rel. "heavy" blade ...
Not any markings visible ...
This knifes serial-made for sure and not an "trench-art" !
A fellow collector spottet some of this knives at flea-markets once before, (but in very poor shape and without scabbard).
In a German Gun-magazine this knifes also shown ... Theres believed, that this knife probably was manufactured in Romania, Czechoslovakia or Russia ...
But no evidence in case of the period of production, only the suggestion, its "wartime" ...
Does anybody of you have had seen a knife like this before ?
Thx in advance,
R.

Looks similar to a Herters Fighting knife.

Hi there !
Another try ...
Days ago I received an, (also still unknown ...),fighting-knife.
Im sure, that both knives where made in the same country for the same Armed Forces!
I cannot believe, that nobodys able to get some informations concerning this knife ...
Cheers,
R.

Interesting knife pattern, gentlemen.
As far as my knowledge tells me, these things are probably Italian. There did exist a very similar pattern during WWI which was used by the Italians and also the Austro-Hungarians. They are basically identical pieces. I suspect that this knife is from the same generic group.

Hi !
Im pretty sure, youre meaning the italian copy of the Austrian-Hungarian pattern fighting-knife "M 1917", (Italian "M 1939"), but youre wrong ...
The Austrian-Hungarian "M 1917" "Sturmmesser":

More than an year ago I started this thread.
Today I try it again to get some answers concerning this unknown fighting-knives.
@FJS
Did you mean the Italian Fighting-knife Model 1916, made of the blade of the Vetterli bayonet ?
Thx.,
R.

A very interesting knife. Getting two of them and not knowing would drive me crazy.. Where did you get the first knife? and the 2nd? Is the leather on the scabbard exactly the same? Strange that the one that is reshaped[?]/ sharpened[?] etc. looks longer than the other example.. So the 2 when first made have the same handle, same guard, same basic design but one has a longer blade...

The first one Ive got from a collectors-mate in Germany, the 2nd one from a mate in Scotland.
Both times, there was a swap.
BTW, both knifes are shown in the paperback "VISIER SPECIAL", (No.12), titled "Militr-Messer - Das Sonderheft zur Ausrstung der Militr- und Spezialeinheiten"
ISBN 3-89715-211-8 ISSN 0948-0528
on page 30.
VISIER is a well known specialist periodical here in Austria and Germany.
Youre right, the dimensions of both knives are different. None of the knives is (re-)-sharpened.
A collectors-mate in Russia told me, this maybe could be a bayonet-conversion ?
Yes, it really drives me crazy, that nobody can help ...
