There are dozens of sake cups and bottles on ebay, many with military flags and stars. Are these genuine WWII items, or are there reproductions or fakes? Any tips appreciated.

The majority are original. The ones to be carefull with are the rare examples such as paratroop, aviation (with single wing fighter planes), tanker etc. Not saying they are all fakes but there are a few fakes around.

Many thanks Jareth.
I also have the same question about the various cased medals on ebay, which are also very appealing. Are these a mix of some reproduction and genuine also?

Thanks Geoff. I have many reference books for German items but none at this point for Japanese, and I agree, they are a must. Can you recommend anything particular for medals?

Hey Ruski!I am sure there are new books on Japanese medals, perhaps Jareth has some suggestions.I found a great book at a gun show that has a great overview of WWII Japanese militaria It is called"Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Uniforms & Equipment"It is written in Japanese but has a supplement in English it is a general overview of Japanese militaria. If you want to order one the number to give to the book store is ISBN4-97090-0000-2 c0072 Best G.
