David,

The mark is OK for an HJ, it's early & seldom seen. How's the rest of it?

thanks billy! the rest is, honestly, pretty amazing - esp. for
an old bugger like this. of course no ricasso, and the motto is

by the way: is this a VERY early one, like 33-34 when not that many were made vs. the later types? and the 'straight arm'
squirrel only used in the really early days?

here's the diamond. why is the frame partly black? I thought these were silvered, then when that wore off the BRASS would show like the rest. is this maybe tarnish on the remaining SILVER?

David,

Looks like it's got the narrow early bakelite, very nice. I can't tell you anything about the diamond but I'm sure one of these HJ gurus can. As far as the mark, I believe this Eick mark predated the '33-'34 mark in the Eick timeline although it may have overlapped those years.

Dave,

I believe that yours is the very earliest on HJ's, the back to back squirrels are found on fighting knifes but not on HJ's.

Can you show us more of your Eickhorn HJ?

David,

Do you have a scabbard for your knife?

Best greetings,

Herman

David,

No, that is not a mismatched scabbard in my opinion. The brown leather is clearly correct for an early HJ knife. In my experience, Eickhorn used 2 runners on their early knifes, also not cotton covered, unlike other early makers.

What about yours, are the runners cotton covered?

You have very nice early Eickhorn HJ set, congratulations.

Best greetings,

Herman

David I'm with Herman on this one. I am not fond of absolutes like, "all early scabbards must have a single runner". There were many makers of this stuff and we are all still learning. I think you have a fine example there.
Hold your head high, IMHO you did fine.

David:

That is an amazing knife.. impossible to find these early items in such great condition. but you did.

These early knives are so much more attractive to me since they lived at a time when being in the National Socialist Party was not a safe thing at all.

I just love that great cross grain.

Mine is in not quite as good condition as Mr. Walsh's.

Scabbard is anodized. There are two runners inside with the remains of a cotton coating. The washer is there but split. The snap part of the holder is gone. The reverse of the leather has the oak leaf / F S stamp. It has a dedication on the spine.
