Picked up two of these in zinc and two zinc L/11 silver wound badges. All from the same vet. I have heard vaseline is good to prevent the corrosion that effects these zinc badges...does anyone have experience with this? Regards, Duane

Duane , that badge is in pretty good shape..
Vaseline,,it works [for me at least]...I've tried it on a few badges that I've had for 30 years that to my horror had a small spot of zinc pest on them. Use a very small amount, work in with finger tip or Q-tip and let sit over night.
If your worried you can always do a test spot on the reverse...

I'm also in the process of a little maintenance,, cleaning the glass on the inside of my display cases and either replacing the material/foam in the wood cases or completely changing the riker cases..Funny, my dug items from 8-9 years ago are in different cases and suffer no zinc pest and my nicer older pieces are starting to suffer!. , G.

Here are the results of my experiment. I did not think to take a before pic. Roll Eyes Here are the after images though. Smile It worked well. The dark spots are where the zinc pest resided.
This cross was in a bad way.
Obverse.

I would not recommend putting vasoline on a badge or medal that does not show corrosion as it will darken an alloy item.
Reverse.
