Hi all,
I was hoping one of you could point me in the right direction with the following question. I've got a SS EM 33 (Robert Klaas) with a name and standarte number(?) "scratched" in reverse of the grip. The name is " Mildenberger" next to the name the following number is visible "I/62". My (inexperienced) guess was that the "I" referred to the Abschnitt and the number to the standarte, but if the 62 indeed refers to the standarte this would mean it sat in Oberabschnitt „Südwest“ and not „Süd“ as the "I" would indicate...
I've found one Mildenberger (ss nr19814) in the DAL (43&44) but he seemed to be assigned to Standarte 32.
I came to the conclusion I'd better ask for some advice in order to avoid keep going in circles. From what I read in the "ss-number" topic, it seems I would have been better off if I had the number?
Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance!
S

Hi Hazheel: Your dagger is identifiable without the SS number since you have the last name and unit designation. Your SS Mann is George Mildenberger, SS No. 19 814, NSDAP 552 586, b. 17 February 1888. He joined the SS on 1 December 1930 and was with the 62 SS-Standarte from 1935-1939. His records specifically place him with I Sturmbann/ 62 SS-Standarte (I/62) in 1938. Attached is the only photo of him located. He has an extensive SS Officer file. Contact me for more information.
