I have a imperial navy dagger that has the name Rickert engraved on the rear of the scabbard. The dagger is 20" overall. The knot looks org. Any information would be greatly appreciated

To really comment about the history of German navy daggers we need more pictures. This appears be a dagger that saw service in World War I and II.

The blade looks later than what would have been purchased by Hans Rickert when he entered the German navy on April 1913. Rickert by the way was born in Guayaquil, Equador on October 23, 1892. He first served aboard the "Mainz". It appears he was a prisoner of war during much of the conflict being held in England until a prisoner exchange or ? October 1917 as he again appears on the ranklist as an active officer, serving brielfy in the torpedo boat division and then the "Schlesien". He finished the war as a Sea Cadet officer and instructor.

Rickert enters the navy again in 1933 as a teacher in the U Boat school, Neustadt until 1939. From 1939-1941 he transferred to the U Boat Defense school as an instructor. From August 1941 to Oct 1944 he served in the OKM. He rose to the rank of F Kapitan May 5, 1941.
From Oct 1944 to March 1945 he was the commander of the Navy Arsenal at Gotenhafen.
He died January 11, 1947.

I would like to see a closeup of the pommel as well, is it a replacement for a crown pommel that was replaced by the eagle pommel in 1938? Navy daggers like this one tell a story, but you need to see all of the parts of the puzzle.

Vic

The 1937 Marine Offizier Verband address book shows Hans Adalbert Rickert residing at the Unterseebootschule Neustadt, which agress with the data supplied above, taken from Vol. III of Lohmann and Hildebrandīs Die Deutsche Kriegsmarine 1939-45. Rickert also appears in the 1937 and 1944 Ranglisten.

Of course, since the inscription only has the last name, It would be good to check with the archives that there werent other Rickerts... ALL these published sources are incomplete.
