Picked this up last night along with an H&R 25 automatic, the group is almost like new and not worn much, question does anyone know what the center ribbon on the lower bar is for and why does it have a battle star?

HI FRITZI..i believe that is the ribbon for the philippine campaign medal,,star indicates participated in one major action,,,Robert

That's the Philippine Liberation Medal, issued by the government of the Philippines. As Robert said, the star indicates either participation in a landing or direct participation in a armed engagement with the Japanese.
