Can you please show a good photo of the trademark and the staples that hold the scabbard fittings to the leather? Thanks! Joe S

Jonny,

I am sure your sword is not made by WKC. The WKC would have a new gold finish. However, I think it is likely that your sword is the same as sole by Military Heritage Weapons and Uniforms. I posted the link above. They appear to be well made replicas, but the color of the hilt material is strange to me. At any rate, I cannot say for certain that the sword you show is not old, only that I suspect it is not old. Look at the ones sold by Military Heritage. Joe S

Jonny,

I have the same concerns about this sword as the others. Look at the grip. It appears to be plastic instead of celluloid and there is a single twisted wire wrap instead of a double or tripple wire wrap.

I would pack that one up and send it back if you can.

I have seen these repro swords floating around at the shows and they look believable from 10 feet away, and then......... junk!

I must respectfully disagree with Ed's comment. I dont think these swords are junk. I would say they are very good quality, which is the scary part. They are certainly of better quality than many late war army sabers. The post war Solingen made navy sabers are of very good quality. I think the ones sold by military heritage are NOT made in Solingen. At any rate, the idea is to be aware that the replicas are out there and to do your best to make sure you know what you are buying. Joe S

The example posted has had KM style markings added to it to try and increase its value. The naval swords themselves have been made for many years. With some for legitimate export sales, and others for the "collector's market". The early postwar German examples are going too have some years on them now, so they all are not going to look like brand new or near new.

And I don't think it hurts to repeat Joe's admonition: "At any rate, the idea is to be aware that the replicas are out there and to do your best to make sure you know what you are buying." FP

I should have been more clear in my statement. The ones I am seeing are not Solingen quality. They are made elsewhere and are not fooling most knoweledgeable collectors out in the field. They could be coming from India or possibly China.
