I like the way you've got them displayed.
On the wall where you can look at 'em...not in a vault somewhere!
Now, all I need is another wall or two.

Trigger, a nice elite guard degen you have here. Also a look at your "family" is appreciated. Does the lionshead sabre have any runes? What is the color of the eyes? I think it is a WKC one?

Wotan,
You are correct, the lion head is WKC. And the eyes are red, unfortunatly no runes on it.

Does anyone know when the officers-degen changeover was from nickel ferrule & pommel-cap to iron?
I should also mention that this officers-degen has an unmarked blade.

Trigger, congratulations to your textbook (I really do hate this word) lionshead sword. Thank god that it does have NOOO runes. These are the unquestionable ones. You never know when any of those runes would have been added by any unexperiencd person who thought that it would "need those runes". I also own an identical sabre (red eys, no runes, WKC) only in slightly better condition (early one with about 60-70% frosted silvering) directly out of the household of a former elite guard member. I know they are real and very rare in unmessed condition.

Wotan, thanks!
I'll attach a few pics of the WKC here as well Cool
I'd love to have one unquestionable with runes...

Cheers,

Trigger, I am sorry that I can show it only in parts due to the 75kb problem.
It´s unquestionable as it came togther with it´s accouterments (portepee, hanger, feltcover) directly out of the household of an elite guard member.

A lovely sword Wotan!
I'd be interested to know what type hanger yours came with..

Mine also came with the portepee, and it certainly looks like it's always been there. I'm not gonna be the one to take it off Big Grin

Very nice original SS Officer Degen!
Is the grip still a vergin one with the cap underneath? I like the yellow touchy patina a lot :-)

Thank you for your kind words.
Trigger, it came with a simple black teardrop stamped (on the adjustable leather tongue) ss48/35rzm. As you easily can see due to the wearing traces the portepee also has been always on this certain sabre.
Robert, it is absolutly virgin as the whole sabre, not the least messing around. Only soft wearing traces. Threfore also about 60% of the original frosting has remained, on the other places either deep coal black patination or this yellowish or kind of red look into which the original protection laquer has turned.
What do you mean with "cap undeneath"?

Robert, thank you for the kind words!
The degen is almost a virgin after nearly 70 years Big Grin The cap is present under the pommel-nut, and by the look of things it has never been apart. The SS-button sits very tight in the grip, no evidence of it ever been tinkered with.
The portepee on the other hand was added by the seller.

Wotan: Thank you again for your info, the WKC is a real gem, and getting it directly from the owner with all accoutrements.. Fantastic!

Cheers,

Tobau,
If ferrule is the leaf and acorn embellished "thing" just above the lower crossguard, then yes. It is magnetic.
No other part of the hilt is magnetic, and the blade is unmarked.

Best regards,
