--dj--Joe It's been a long time since I looked into these (by coincidence I have been looking this last weekend). The pieces without the Swastika were from the earlier group the Deutschnationaler Handlungsgehilfen-Verband whilst the Swastika versions were the Deutscher Handlungsgehilfen-Verband.... Below are the examples shown in the Hüsken catalogue for the Deutschnationaler HV, although there were many others

And here are the versions he shows for the Deutscher HV. I'm hoping to have a new piece for my collection soon, will post it once I have it....

I was thinking there was a wreathed version with swaz. Did not know there were three.
Thanks Gaspare, I do recall the emblem on a ring.
Thanks Don. You must have a hard to find example on the way. What is the Deutschnationaler Handlungsgehilfen-Verband winged quill for? Did stenographers not have a separate union yet?

Sorry, I've no idea regarding the Steno piece. Hüsken mearly lists it as " Stenographen Abzeichen". I must say that I am looking forward to the new addition. It may be a while before it arrives though I forgot to say what a nice piece you posted by Paulmann & Crone Joe. From memory I think that there were 3 known makers of the membership pin, Paulmann & Crone being the most prolific, the others were Carl Wild from Hamburg & Deschler & Sohn. There are of course many unmarked pieces... So far though I have have only seen the wreathed pieces marked to Carl Wild. From what I understand, the DHV were very influential & had their fingers in a lot of pies. You may recall that they funded one of the early newspaers, the Hansische Warte which through a merger became the Hamburger Tageblatt. https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=355948#Post355948

Don, thank you for the additional information. Thank you also for posting the Hamburger Tageblatt link. I was getting ready to search for it. Stephen, great looking ring in very nice condition. Thanks for posting it. I know the stick pins are a small size at 11mm. (the examples I have seen anyway 3405a). Is the ring emblem larger? --dj--Joe

Stephen,
Thank you for posting your ring, it’s a beauty & the first time for me 😎.
Don Hi Don, No problem. It's one of my favourite rings. Glad you like it too. I did a quick search and came across a pre-Nazi DHV ring (no Swastika) here on GDC. It was originally posted by Vern. Stephen

Thank you again Stephen. Yes I've seen these types before, just never the later version with the Swaz.

A scan of the set of 4...
Incidentally, new evidence has been found by our friend KR which explains the blue 1914 pins. They were not, as many reference books suggest, for WWI volunteers but for the organisation's best recruiters...

It's quite a treat to see them all together. Is the gold slightly larger than the 25 yr.? Perhaps not. Congratulations Don. Thanks to you and KR for the additional information.

Thank you Joe. No, they are both approx 16mm (I say approx as my digital calipers have broken & had to use an old fashioned ruler). I had problems trying to get them all leverl on the bed of the scanner

Don, Is it known what the significance of the 1914 date stands for on the recruiters badge?

According to KR, it's the year that the badge was given out.

Thanks Don. I wonder how much earlier the Swas. was in use on organizational badges and if it was politically driven prior to the 30's or just an old-world rune? I do have this Austrian, Verband "Deutsche Wehr" pin. It dates from the 20"s if I read correctly.
