Hey Guys, I`ve just recently purchased a 2nd luft, and received it in the post yesterday. Its a Gustav Spitzer and when examining it closer, I discovered 2 anomalies on the scabbard 1) it has no throat retaining screws what so ever, and never did have any?? Is this OK? I checked in Wittmann`s book, and he makes no mention of any scabbards without retaining screws? 2) The lower scabbard band is secured up side down??? Has anybody ever come across this anomalie before? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, DIon

Interesting scabbard. Seen this in the past. I've even seen the band put on backwards, so the retaining screw faces the obverse. The myth that these guys were infailable again is proven wrong. Lastly yes sometimes we see scabbards without retaining screws. In my opinion the scabbard is fine.

Hi Paul, Many thanks for your comments mate! Greatly appreciated. It puts my mind at ease now. It certainly looked right to me, especially the patina and wear, but I just was`nt quite sure? Never seen one before. Must`ve been a Monday or Friday manufacture In fact, its great to have one thats not quite "textbook"! Cheers, Dion

Yea it's cool. Look in Wittmann's Luft book he has a similar example in there.

Agree with Paul here, probably a rush job, couldn't be bothered with a screw and an upside down scabbard band, maybe it was put together close to home time Nolan
