I have recently obtained a Rohm dagger and I wish to know more about what I own. I have been guaranteed that this is the genuine article and I'd like to know what you all think.... Look forward to hearing from you

Can't really be sure since only a little bit of the inscription fits in the little window of my "Magic Eight Ball."

Incorrect plated fittings on both scabbard and dagger is incorrect for this period
piece. Not a good sign!

Also blade has been buffed with new graining showing. I really don't even want to cast an opinion on the inscription.

In closing, may I add, that no knowledgeable dealer would have sold you this as original. I don't care whose toes I step on! It just makes me mad.

Here is how I see things going....I'm going to buy something that I know nothing about and I don't have time to read or am I interested in learning about what I am going to buy before hand. I know! I'll just show it to the experts and let them bail me out. That's the easy thing to do! And you know what, it dosen't cost a cent! What a deal.

Sure wish I'd have had that luxury 40 years ago.

Buy a copy of "Reproduction? Recognition!" by Frederick Stevens and a copy of Thomas Johnson "Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich Vol.I" to start out. Ones cheap and one isn't. Both are in English.

Raymond,

Click on this link:

http://www.wwiidaggers.com/REFTTW.htm

The fourth book down - EXPLORING THE DRESS DAGGERS AND SWORDS OF THE GERMAN SS - is what you need as well.

Call (856)866-8733 in the morning after 10:30 and buy it. That's my best advice.

Funny thing is I use my book all the time. I could not stay in business without it and I've owned a few SS's over the years. Amazes me how a new collector could wade into this without one!

Of course books are importend, but more for the basics. There is way much more knowledge needed when you want to spend some k´s and feel happy and safe after an expensive purchase.
