Hi

To me, Looks like you have a very nice example.
I see nothing wrong with it, But maybe the experts might see something that I do not see.
If for some reason , you suspect something on the hat. I would wait and hear from more knowledgeable collectors.

Eric,

I kind of like it as well. Nothing strikes me as unusual. It has a wonderful shape and appearance to benefit.

Just out of curiosity, how are the pebbled chin-cord buttons attached to the visor?

I am not good on SS visors but I love evidence. The visor crackling looks natural and I like the wear marks left by the cord on the band. The thumb wear on the inside of the visor is somthing that is faked, but only because original caps have this condition. This cap has no wear that I would think of as forced. Also, check the insignia attachment. Should be nice and tight, particularly the totenkompf.

This hat is easy to recognise as being an original period piece. However, with this wear, I agree with Kevin that the price is quite high. I had one for sale at the SOS last year for nearly 2K less and in better condition and I took it home. Not one person even asked to see it.

I am in the market for one, BUT since they are big $$$$ I will have to sell off some of my collecton in order to afford one. I think it is WAY to high, just like Bill Sheas $11k+ for a visor. This one is being offered by collectrussia.com.

I am a dagger collector with a few nice visors, buying a SS visor is a bit nerve racking since there are soooooo many fakes and mess w/ for sale. The other kicker is the eagle and skull are replacements to this visor.

Is any one willing to trade? I have some nice SS and SA daggers????

Yes , I would say very expensive for a put together hat. I went on their web site and read the details. Without hands on inspection. It is very diffcult to tell, if a item is put together.By just looking at the pictures, Man , he had me fooled.
