Wittmann's SS book depicts one identical or very similar. He notes Muller made damascus paper knives (letter openers) during the Third Reich period and also made facsimiles after the war. He further states, in so many words, it is difficult, if not impossible, to tell when any given example was made. As he notes, they are beautiful works of art in any case. So, your friend's example is likely "iffy" as to when it was made. However, I don't think there's much doubt it is a Muller example.

The Himmler signature has a dot over the "i", so does that make it considered to be a post war production as with the daggers?
