I just recently aquired these two SA coffee can hats from a WWII vet lot. I believe the black top hat is from Berlin but I don't know about the red top. Does anyone know what the red indicates?

Hi
not a SA collector, but I would say red with white button for the staff of SA-Gruppe 1939-45.
Cheers

BOTH KEPIS APPEAR TO BE NICE ORIGINAL EXAMPLES. YOU ARE CORRECT IN THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE BLACK GRUPPE COLOR WITH THE SILVER BUTTON INDICATES THE OWNER BELONGED TO SA GRUPPE BERLIN BRANDENBURG. THE RED TOP WITH THE CLOTH EAGLE ON THE TOP IS FOR A MEMBER OF A GRUPPE STAFF ATTACHED TO THE DISTRICT TRAINING LAGER. PLEASE POST PICTURES OF THE INSIDE OF THE CAPS AND THE RZM TAGS.
BOB

YES!! MORE PICS!! The tan kepi with the red top probably had a SMOOTH silver button originally. How is it attached? INSIDE PICS, TOO!!

THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE BUTTON SHOULD BE SMOOTH ON THE LAGERMUTZE FORM OF KEPI IS INCORRECT. THIS FORM OF HAT ALWAYS HAS THE PEBBELED BUTTON. THE SA MEN WHO WORE THIS FORM OF KEPI WERE FULLY EMPLOYED AT GRUPPE TRAINING FACILITIES AND CAMPS. MANY OF THE ONES I HAVE SEEN, INCLUDING THE EXAMPLE IN MY COLLECTION, ARE STAMPED WITH SCHOOL OR CAMP PROPERTY STAMPS.

Thanks for the help with the ID to the red top. I have several ref. books with a few on WWII German cloth headgear. The red top was hard for me to ID as I found there are different shades of red but not quite this vibrant. Here are a few more photos.
