2006 is starting off pretty good for me.
I was able to add 2 helmets to my collection last week.
These were picked up from a collector friend of mine who is shifting his collecting focus.
M42 2 color.
Unique pattern of Tans and Browns over the blue base.
No decal is visible under the paint.

Cool camo, Matt! But it looks like it's time for a new grill cover!

Hi Jerry

I am not sure what theatre this one came out of, but I would bet like you mentioned, Italy.

I have seen similar pattern helmets in period photos that were from Italy.

Beautiful helmet Matt, it looks similar to the one you picked up out of Canada a few months ago.

Bring it to the SOS, I will try to talk you out of it.

Great helmet, Matt. And, don't you dare replace the grill cover - it has terrific patina. Big Grin

What's with the helmet in the background? Wink

Matt,

This one of the things that makes collecting camo helmets so interesting...there is simply no end to the variations you can find. Very nice example.

Cheers,

The subject of this thread is interesting in that it is obviously original in both it's patina and utter naturalness. The helmet is not particularly 'sexy', as a faker might attempt for marketing purposes, but , rather, the helmet was painted without the consideration of craft. That's how it was done in the field during a war.

Hey Leif, how about posting some close ups of your Japanese helmets on the Japanese board? I'd love to see them!
