Anything, I can do to improve this bird's appearance and make it usable? I have this 100% original tropical breast eagle that I'd like to get usable to put on a tropical service shirt. As you can see there is no fabric left, to apply this correctly. Somebody suggested to use a like piece of fabric and glue the eagle to that, which would give me some 'meat' to sew it back to a tunic, shirt. Any other ideas? These things are just so damn hard to find and if they show up, they ain't cheap. I'd like to get some use out of my bird.

Here is the reverse. It clearly shows where the piece is damaged.

Thanks a lot!

Wolfgang

Well, I know we have friends of insignia here.
Even, if nobody has a good solution, enjoy the birds. I like both of them. Here is the front of the better one. They are slightly different.

I think I would use bias tape in a matching color and have it sewn on the back. That way it could be removed in the future if necessary. Any good tailoring shop should be able to do it.

Dear Herr Wolf,

The eagle you seek to improve has its edges cut away at some parts. Once this is done there is little that could be done without damaging the insignia further.

Without a seamed edge, any sewing on it will continue to fray the weave. Even in this condition it is still collectible, but if you add alterations it will become far less collectible.

In my opinion, enjoy it for what it is and perhaps a better one will come your way.
